Laos – Land of Million Elephants. Area:

236,800 sq km. Population: 5 millions. Capital: Vientiane. The temples, monasteries and Luang Prabang set the scene in this timeless land. Except for lowlands along the Mekong river, where most of the people live, and three sparsely populated plateus, the terrain is mountainous and thickly forested. From the fertile lowlands of the Mekong River valley to the rugged Anamite highlands, travelers who have made it to Laos tent to agree that this country is the highlight of South – East Asia.

Customs and formalities :

The regulations are now relaxed for travelers arriving by air at Wattay airport / Vientiane. Passengers should have completed immigration and customs declaration forms during the flights and must submit these on arrival.

Passport and visa :

All nationalities are required to have visa getting into Laos, Visa is usually delivered by Lao Embassies, which require the original passport and 2 photos for two full working days in order to stamp the visa. Visas obtained upon arrival can be issued immediately at any international border gates, which stated quoted US$ 30.00 per person. However, the procedure of getting of visa will be change from time to time.

Currency :

Approximately Kip 10,500 to 1.00 US Doller. Travel cheques are generally only accepted in major cities some shops and big restaurants. Best to use US dollars.

Climate :

The dry of cool season begins end of October and lasts until end of February necessary to bring pullover or jacket during can be very cool at night, especially in themountainous area such as Luang Prabang, the

plain of jars,Saravane and Houeixai. The hot season lasts from March to June and light cotton and hats recommended. The rain season starts in June and ends in October. For visitors traveling between end of March and beginning of April, please note in the mountainous area where the slash and burn cultivation remained, the weather may be worse caused by smokes and domestic flight might by delayed or can celled.

Health requirements :

No vaccinations are presently required. If traveling to remote or border areas, travelers should check with their doctor or travel immunization clinic regarding the advisability of inoculation against Typhoid, hepatitis, tetanus and Japanese encephalitis.

Language :

The office language of Lao PDR is Lao. It is spoken in different parts of the country The Vientiane dialect is understood throughout the country. In spite of the colonial past, French remains the second official language. English is in common use among business sectors and young generation.

Tipping :

Tipping is not obligatory in Laos, but is nonetheless widely practiced in hotels and restaurant in addition to the ser vice charges shown on bills. ( Porters, 10,000 – 15,000 Kip per bag.)

         Laos is developing country whose infrastructure, values, customs, standard may different from what you expect in your homeland. Road condition is poor, accommodation and transportation may be basic in remote area.

The dress standards are conservative throughout Asia. Loose, lightweight, long clothing are all respectful and cool in Asian hot climate. In addition to your tems of personal clothing, we suggest you to bring trainer or sneaker shoes, jacket for cold weather, torch/flash light, hat rain coat for wet season, sun cream, sunglasses, daypack, toiletries and small towel, insect repellent. Occasionally, this itinerary may be amended for reasons beyond our control as weather, flight delay of road conditions. The best time to take World Heritage tours form August - November.
